Mondrian

A generative take on Mondrian's grid paintings. The layout is built by splitting the canvas in two, then splitting those pieces, and so on, which is how his compositions are put together. Whatever it's doing, it's always a valid Mondrian-style layout. The Color knob sweeps through hues. The three colours keep the same spacing on the colour wheel as Mondrian's red, blue and yellow (his blue sits about 213° from his red, his yellow about 48°), so every setting has the same slightly off-balance feel as his palette. Put the knob in the middle and you get his actual red, blue and yellow. Knobs Color: hue. The middle is Mondrian's original palette. Hold: how long it waits between rearrangements. Cells: how many rectangles, from 5 to 16. More cells also means more coloured ones. Speed: how fast things move. Turn Speed up and hold down for something busy. Turn Speed down and hold up, and it barely moves.
